The Gerund

The gerund has the same function as a noun, it's made from a verb by adding "ing".

Gerunds as the subject of the sentence.
Example

• Owning a car is expensive.

Gerunds after verbs.

Example

• Experts suggest driving slowly.

Gerunds after phrasal verbs

Phrasal verbs are composed of a verb plus preposition or adverb.

Example

• When will you give up smoking?
